Biography


Josephine OclooJosephine Ocloo is a senior lecturer in social work at London Metropolitan University. She is currently on sabbatical studying for a PhD on 'Medical Harm and Patient Empowerment within the NHS'.

Josephine became involved as a lay member in patient safety work as a result of the untimely death of her daughter Krista, whilst under the care of the Royal Brompton Hospital, which she believes occurred as a result of medical negligence.

Josephine was subsequently invited by the hospital to be involved in implementing the recommendations of an wider NHS Inquiry set up by the hospital to look at the concerns of a number of parents into their children's care.

Josephine then went on to become chair of the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust Patients Forum where she leads on the work on patient safety and clinical governance and equality and diversity issues.

Josephine has also recently taken up a post to co-manage with Louise Price 'The Patients' for Patient Safety Project'. This initiative has been set up to develop patient and public involvement in patient safety work in the NHS. The project is being taken forward by Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA) a leading patients charity in partnership with the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA).
